Pioneering Leader with Stellar Track Record Joins WTA

Portia Archer has been appointed as the new CEO of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). She brings over two decades of experience in global sports and media industries.

Archer’s impressive resume boasts senior positions at NBC Sports Group, HBO, and the BBC. Most recently, she served as the Chief Operating Officer of the NBA G League.

Strong Background in Business Strategy and Growth

In her role at the NBA G League, Archer oversaw all commercial operations. She drove expansion, boosted fan engagement, and improved commercial performance.

Her strategic expertise extends to professional sports, media ecosystems, and transformational success across multiple organizations. At HBO, Archer expanded reach, launching digital channels internationally. She spearheaded NBC’s sports rights acquisition strategy and their direct-to-consumer streaming business.

As CEO, Archer will lead strategy, operations, and relationships with players and tournaments. She’ll collaborate with Simon and Marina Storti, CEO of WTA Ventures, to propel the sport’s future success.

Extensive Recruitment Process Yields Promising Leader

Archer’s selection followed a comprehensive recruitment process by Korn Ferry on behalf of the WTA Board of Directors. Her tenure commences on July 29, 2024, further strengthening the WTA’s leadership.

The WTA has made a strategic move by appointing Archer, who brings a wealth of expertise from diverse sectors. Her leadership at the NBA G League and prominent media giants positions her well to drive operational excellence and growth for women’s professional tennis.
