From her early days as a “sissy boy” to embracing her true identity, the book offers a candid and inspiring account. It has been praised for its courage, humor, and profound insights into the challenges faced by the transgender community.
As the Director of The Coalition for Justice and Equality Across Movements at NMAC (National Minority AIDS Council) in Washington DC, Newman has been a vocal advocate. Her work focuses on achieving health equity, justice equity, and inclusion for all, regardless of race, sex, or gender.
Accolades and Recognitions
Newman’s exceptional leadership and impact have garnered numerous accolades. Earlier this year, she graced the cover of “The Leaders Globe Magazine” as one of the 10 Most Influential Black Leaders to Watch in 2024.
Additionally, she was named the 2024 Anthem Awards Gold Medal Nonprofit Leader of the Year for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Newman’s story has transcended the written word, inspiring a short film, “Heart of a Woman.” With plans for a feature film adaptation in 2025, her journey continues to resonate, inspiring future generations to embrace their authentic selves and fight for a more inclusive world.

A graduate of Wake Forest University and a candidate for her Juris Doctorate, Newman has dedicated her life to service. She has served as a 3-time CEO, advocating for marginalized communities’ rights and well-being.
