Valerie Blaise, the visionary designer behind Vavvoune, has carved a unique path in the fashion industry. Her brand stands as a testament to self-expression, sustainability, and the preservation of cultural identity.

Through her handcrafted leather bags, Blaise weaves together her Haitian heritage, art, and a passion for individuality, empowering nonconformists worldwide.

A Journey of Self-Discovery and Creativity

Blaise’s foray into the world of fashion began in 2015 when she started making leather bags by hand as a creative outlet. Little did she know that this hobby would blossom into a full-fledged brand, Vavvoune, founded in 2018 after garnering genuine interest from the public.

“Once the piece was delivered to me, I was amazed at how beautifully unexpected it was,” Blaise reminisced about a vintage handbag she purchased online. “I fell in love with the leather that it was constructed with and admired its intricacies.”

These words encapsulate Blaise’s deep appreciation for craftsmanship and storytelling, elements that lie at the heart of Vavvoune.

A Preservation of Identity and Tradition

The name “Vavvoune” itself holds a profound significance. It stems from Blaise’s childhood nickname in Haiti, where nicknames were a way to express one’s identity apart from their given name. By reviving this moniker, Blaise has created a space to preserve her roots and honor her Haitian culture.

“Growing up on the island and being surrounded by the vibrant colors, textures, and traditions of my heritage has instilled in me a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and storytelling,” Blaise shared.

A Sustainable and Ethical Approach

Vavvoune’s ethos extends beyond aesthetics and into the realm of sustainability and social responsibility. Blaise consciously opts to use leather leftovers from luxury brands, breathing new life into these materials. This ethical approach not only reduces waste but also encourages customers to reevaluate their relationship with leather and its environmental impact.
