Entrepreneurial Prowess Recognized at Highest Level
Iam C. Tucker, a former Baton Rouge police officer and CEO of Integrated Logistical Support Incorporated (ILSI), has been named the 2024 National Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
This prestigious award recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate exceptional leadership and create sustainable, thriving businesses in their communities.
Tucker received the honor during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., kicking off National Small Business Week. Her remarkable journey from law enforcement to becoming a successful entrepreneur has been nothing short of inspiring.
A Legacy of Growth and Resilience
Taking over ILSI, a civil engineering firm started by her father 30 years ago, Tucker has overseen tremendous growth. Under her leadership, the company’s workforce has expanded from 9 to 50 employees, with annual revenue exceeding $7.5 million.
“Iam has overseen tremendous business growth over the last 15 years in the engineering field while demonstrating the value of hard work and resourcefulness in ensuring continued resilience,” said Isabel Casillas Guzman, U.S. SBA Administrator.
Throughout her tenure, Tucker has secured more than 100 contracts with various state, local, and federal agencies. ILSI specializes in sewer, water, street, and drainage design projects, contributing to the development of critical infrastructure.
A Shining Example of Entrepreneurial Spirit
Tucker’s journey exemplifies the grit, ingenuity, and determination that define successful entrepreneurs. Her ability to transform a small business into a thriving enterprise has earned her the admiration of her peers and the recognition of the nation’s highest authorities.
“Louisiana’s small business community continues to be a shining light driving our state’s economy forward,” said Susan B. Bourgeois, LED Secretary. “Congratulations to this year’s honorees for their significant achievements in – and contributions to – our great state.”
