A Family Affair on the Coachella Stage
It was a surprise-filled Sunday (April 14) at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, as R&B icon Lauryn Hill joined her son YG Marley on stage during his afternoon set.
Wearing a vibrant orange-and-black suit and rocking white beads in her hair, Hill walked out and embraced her second-born child before launching into a powerful performance of her solo hit “Ex-Factor” from her acclaimed debut album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.”
Fugees Reunion Takes the Stage
The family affair took an unexpected turn as Hill continued her set with a fierce rendition of “Lost Ones,” another standout from her debut album.
But the real surprise came when Hill’s Fugees bandmate Wyclef Jean joined her on stage, sparking a mini-reunion of the iconic hip-hop group.
Together, the duo thrilled the crowd with performances of Fugees classics like “Killing Me Softly,” “Ready or Not,” and “Fu-Gee-La.” Though their third Fugees member, Pras, was absent, YG Marley ably filled in on his parts during “Ready or Not.”
Honoring the Marley Legacy
The Coachella set was a true family affair, as the musicians also paid tribute to YG Marley’s late grandfather, reggae legend Bob Marley, by performing snippets of his hits “One Love” and “Exodus.”
This heartfelt homage to the Marley family’s musical legacy added an extra layer of emotion to the already electrifying performance. The Lauryn Hill-led mini Fugees reunion was just one of many surprise appearances that thrilled Coachella attendees on Sunday.
Hip-hop heavyweight Busta Rhymes and his longtime hype man, Spliff Star, also took the stage to blaze through some of Busta’s biggest hits, including “Put Your Hand Where My Eyes Could See” and his verse from Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now.”
A Star-Studded Coachella Lineup
In addition to Hill, Wyclef, and Busta, the Coachella lineup was filled with other high-profile guest appearances.
Headliner Doja Cat brought out A$AP Rocky, 21 Savage, and Teezo Touchdown, while Will Smith made a surprise appearance during J Balvin’s set, and Justin Bieber joined Tems and Wizkid for a performance of “Essence.”
It was a truly unforgettable day at Coachella, with the Fugees reunion standing out as one of the most iconic moments.
