Embracing the “Rush Slowly” Philosophy

In the picturesque Caribbean island of Nevis, a group of Black women wellness practitioners are revolutionizing the concept of self-care by embracing the local motto, “rush slowly.”

This powerful mantra encourages individuals to find harmony between urgency and diligence, fostering a holistic approach to wellness that extends far beyond trending treatments or unconventional experiences.

The Wisdom of Nevisian Wellness Experts

“When I sit here to do your service, I’m not in a hurry. You get to relax. It’s a massage with a difference. Here in Nevis, we’re not in a hurry. We take time. So, rush slowly.” – Marvella Wallace, Massage Therapist

Marvella Wallace, a massage therapist at The Four Seasons Resort in Nevis, embodies the essence of this philosophy. Her gentle reminder to “rush slowly” during a signature Nevisian massage encourages guests to embrace a mindset of relaxation and self-care, even amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life.

A Sanctuary for Holistic Healing

Nestled at the foothills of Nevis Peak lies the Eden Life Rejuvenation Centre, an oasis of healing and rejuvenation that centers around “nature cures” and various healing methods with Caribbean flair. Founder Dr. Miranda Fellows believes that the island’s serene environment and connection to nature create a powerful healing space.

“Just being here on this land opens the door for these avenues of healing in different ways. Whether it’s at the sea, in the mountains, or in the hot springs, Nevis lends itself to holistic wellness,” Dr. Fellows shares.

Integrating Wellness into Daily Life

Sidra Samuel, the Wellness Manager at the Four Seasons Resort in Nevis, echoes the importance of accessibility and integration when it comes to wellness practices. Through offerings like yoga, Reiki, and sound therapy, she aims to create spaces where individuals can reconnect with themselves and find inner peace.

“I’m simply here to hold space for you to remind you of the things of basically coming home to yourself, home to your body, coming home to your breath, and coming home to you. Sometimes we need that gentle reminder,” says Samuel.

The Nevis Effect: Exhilaration and Rejuvenation

For visitors to Nevis, the island’s tranquil vibe and lush surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for embracing the “rush slowly” philosophy. From farm-to-table cuisine and the Nevis Botanical Gardens to yoga sessions and sound healing, the island offers a holistic wellness experience that encourages mindfulness, self-care, and a deeper connection with nature.

“That’s the Nevis effect,” says Dr. Fellows. “It’s a tangible sense of exhilaration.”
