Jessikah Inaba’s ascent to becoming the first Black and the first blind barrister in the U.K. is a testament to her indomitable spirit and dedication to overcoming barriers. In a profession often dominated by visual tasks, Jessikah’s journey was marked by courage and innovation.
Navigating law school as a blind student required not only mastering the intricacies of legal theory, but also pioneering accessible methods for studying.
Inaba graduated from the University of Law in London last week and had been studying there for five years. While enrolled, she had numerous legal textbooks translated into Braille which helped her complete her schooling. However, Inaba also credits friends and tutors who helped her along the way.
Jessikah became a catalyst for change, advocating for inclusive resources and technological adaptations to level the playing field for visually impaired individuals pursuing legal education.
Jessikah Inaba’s historic accomplishment not only breaks new ground for individuals with visual impairments in the legal field but also serves as an inspiration for inclusivity in professions across the board.
Congratulations, queen! #BWLM💕
