Pamela Smith has made history by becoming the very first Black female chief of police in Washington, District of Columbia.
Mayor Muriel E. Bowser made the landmark announcement after Smith joined the Metropolitan Police Department in 2022.
Smith has a long history in law en
forcement and security, and previously became the first African American woman to head the United States Park Police when she was promoted to in 2021.
