Oscars Voters Slam Hollywood Inclusion Standards Amid New Diversity Rules

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, better known as The Academy, has made some big changes to its rules for the upcoming 2024 awards season after years of petitioning for the awards ceremony to be more inclusive and “with the times.”

Beginning next year, a film will not be considered unless it features a lead or significant supporting character from an “underrepresented racial or ethnic group,” or at least 30% of the cast comes from two or more underrepresented groups, such as members of the LGBTQIA+, women, ethnic minorities and disabled communities.

This means that movies such as The Lord of the Rings, The Godfather and Schindler’s List would not have won Oscars based on these new diversity rules.

Many film critics and actors, such as Richard Dreyfuss, are making a fuss about the new rules, citing that they make him “vomit.”

“They make me vomit,” Dreyfuss said on PBS’s “Firing Line.” “This is an art form. It’s also a form of commerce, and it makes money, but it’s an art. No one should be telling me as an artist that I have to give in to the latest, most current idea of what morality is.”

Sounds kinda… 🌚 Ya’know… Anyway, what are your thoughts about this? The tea is that Jada Pinkett Smith was a catalyst for this and she deserves her 10’s. #BWLM💕
