What a way to end 2022 and bring in the new year ! Just six months after the #CherokeeNation of Oklahoma expressed interest in purchasing the North Pointe shopping center; a budding 5.8 acre property on the Northwest corner of MLK Jr. Blvd and Pine street, making it impossible to miss; the foundation has made quite the significant purchase!
Tulsa natives and transplants alike, can appreciate this milestone movement for a multitude of reasons. The tribe originally expressed interest to turn the property into a courthouse/administrative building (and there were rumors floating that it might just include a jail) but no evidence was brought forth on the claim.
The Terence Crutcher Foundation was created after the untimely 2016 death of family man and Tulsa native, Terence Crutcher. Crutcher was unjustly murdered by Tulsa Police officer Shelby. The unarmed father was seeking assistance for his vehicle which had stalled out in the middle of the road.
Crutcher Foundation board member Greg Robinson said in an interview with the Tulsa World, that he was excited to see a local community organization that is committed to improving north Tulsa purchase a tangible asset that will help realize that goal
The foundation’s work includes advocating for policy changes, honoring the legacy of Black Tulsans, including those affected by the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre (as well as the remaining three survivors), and strengthening the community through leadership and economic development.
