We’ve all been made aware of #BrittneyGriner’s overseas detainment since it was announced back in March.
The #WNBA Star has been sentenced to nine years, with a possibility of credit for the five months time she’s already served.
“…Russian criminal law treats drug offenses very harshly and I was not surprised that she got basically the maximum sentence…” says William Pomeranz to #ABCNews Friday, August 5th, 2022.
Griner was incarcerated after being stopped in the airport, while possessing hashish oil cartridges, which are illegal in Russia. She also had .7 grams of marijuana on her at the time of her arrest.
Although attempts from President Biden have gone essentially unheard, he has proposed exchanging Griner and former Marine, Paul Whelan, who’s been detained in Russia since 2019, for convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.
Griner has already reached out to President Biden and the U.S, pleading for them to help get her released.
We’re hoping the next update will be notice that she’s coming back stateside but until then – #FreeBrittneyGriner until it’s backwards.
We want all of us to be safe while traveling, nationally and internationally. Although excessive with the consequences, please keep in mind to check local laws regarding personal interest and customs, when it comes to both domestic and international travel.
We’ll be keeping our good sis @brittneyyevettegriner lifted in thoughts and prayers in addition to safe travels returning stateside. #BWLM💕
