Grammy and Academy Award-winning artist H.E.R. is set to play the role of Belle in ABC’s upcoming live-action version of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ making her the first Afro-Filipina woman to do so.
“I can’t believe I get to be a part of the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ legacy. The world will see a Black and Filipino Belle!” she said. “I have always wanted to be a Disney princess, and I get to work with two wonderful directors — Hamish Hamilton, and my favorite, Jon M. Chu. It is very surreal and I couldn’t be more grateful.”
The special is set to be taped before a live studio audience, and airs Thursday, Dec. 15, at 8 p.m. ET; it will be available on Disney+ the next day. Just in time for Christmas!
