Singer, songwriter, and actress #Ashanti has been in the music game for a minute and with years of experience in making hits comes the knowledge and wisdom of what is best for an artist in the long term.

Her latest effort involves wanting to “get the message out that artists should own their intellectual property.” Ashanti has been continuously demonstrating the importance of ownership of her work and recently became the first Black female artist to co-found a Web3 company.

A Web3 company is essentially the next level of the internet, where users have the chance to become shareholders of decentralized data.

According to NewsOne, the singer is partnering with EQ Exchange. This woman-owned company has a primary objective to ensure artists have ownership over their intellectual property and connect more directly with their target audiences.

If you recall, last year, Ashanti spoke on her process of re-recording her self-titled debut album, which turns twenty this year. The reason for re-recording the album was to gain complete control and ownership over her body of work, much of which she wrote and produced or co-produced. This more than illustrates her passion and excitement with partnering with such a dope company!

EQ Exchange shared their excitement via Twitter, stating, “EQ Exchange would like to officially welcome Ashanti to the family! As a Grammy-award-winning, multi-Platinum music veteran, she is the first Black woman owner of a music NFT company. We’re grateful to be on this journey with her.”

Ashanti also posted her excitement for this new project with the caption, “I’m so ecstatic to be the First Black female Artist to be a partner and co-owner of such an Amazing Web3 tech company as EQ Exchange. Focusing on music and NFTs, EQ is built on CELO, the world’s first carbon-negative blockchain.”

Ashanti and EQ Exchange also focus on bringing a more personal experience to her fans that involves music and gifts. “We’re focused on a mutual exchange of gifts,” she said. “Love to and from my fans!”

Ashanti is getting things done and showing upcoming artists how to do the same, and that’s on period! #BWLM💕
