Forbes Recognizes Racquel Oden as a Trailblazer in Finance
Racquel Oden, U.S. Head of Wealth at HSBC, has been named to the Forbes 50 Over 50 list. Her recognition highlights decades of work shaping the banking industry and expanding access to financial opportunity.
For Oden, this honor represents more than career success. It affirms her mission to prepare women and people of color for the historic transfer of wealth ahead. “My job is to make sure that we finally represent, allowing Main Street to be part of Wall Street,” Oden said.
Her inclusion in the investment category is especially significant. She is among a select group of women over 50 leading global finance while advancing social equity.
A Career Built on Leadership and Inclusion
Oden’s journey to the top of the banking world reflects resilience and determination. The daughter of Jamaican immigrants, she built her career across major firms, including JPMorgan Chase and Merrill Lynch.
She joined HSBC in 2023 to lead U.S. wealth management, global private banking, and retail banking. In this role, she has pushed for broader representation while guiding high-level financial operations.
Her approach blends expertise with purpose. She has often been described as a powerhouse in her field, yet she remains deeply focused on lifting others as she climbs.
Preparing Women and Communities for Wealth Transfer
Oden sees a major financial shift on the horizon. Research shows that women and people of color will inherit and control significant wealth in the coming decades. She wants to ensure they are prepared.
“Part of my role is to ensure that I build the next generation to represent what the world and society looks like,” she explained. She stresses that financial literacy and leadership will be essential for long-term success.
Her message is clear: embrace financial responsibility now. “I always say, take control of the purse… I want people to lean into it, not waiting until it happens.”
Impact Beyond the Banking Industry
Oden’s influence extends well past Wall Street. She serves as Board Chair of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, supporting students at historically Black colleges and universities. She also sits on the Board of Directors for the Apollo Theater, helping preserve cultural institutions.
For her, education, arts, and culture are vital to community growth. “When I think about our HBCUs, I’m making sure we support these young minds… our cultural institutions need to be not only supported but protected,” Oden said.
Her advocacy reflects a belief that true leadership means impact beyond business.
A Legacy of Confidence, Purpose, and Community
Throughout her 25-year career, Oden has championed bold leadership with humility. She encourages women to step into their power while staying grounded in grace.
Her recognition by Forbes reflects the strength of her influence. It also signals a shift in what leadership looks like: inclusive, purpose-driven, and community-centered.
“Over a 25-year career, you’re being recognized for having impact beyond your job… truly, wow, I’m actually having impact on society,” Oden shared.
With her voice and vision, she continues to inspire women, people of color, and future leaders to embrace their financial power.
