Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Bold Act of Giving Supports Abused Children in Arkansas
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® (AKA) made a strong impact in Arkansas with its recent regional gathering. More than 4,000 women arrived in Little Rock for the 93rd South Central Regional Conference. The group brought more than energy and sisterhood—they came with purpose.
One of the most powerful moments of the week was a generous $20,000 donation. The funds went to the Child Advocacy Center of Arkansas (CACar), a group that supports children facing abuse and neglect. Elizabeth Pulley, the center’s executive director, shared her gratitude, saying, “We are so grateful to the South Central Region of AKA for their presence and donation of $20,000.”
A Celebration with Real Economic and Social Impact
The conference wasn’t just a gathering. It left a $9 million economic footprint on central Arkansas. Attendees came from across the South Central Region, including Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Arkansas. Their presence filled hotels, restaurants, and local businesses.
Held at the Statehouse Convention Center, the event carried the theme: “A R.E.A.L. Diamond Adventure in the Natural State.” It combined celebration, leadership, and service. “It was a great honor to host this year’s conference,” said Dr. Shawn E. Simmons, the South Central Regional Director. She added, “We were dedicated to supporting local businesses and organizations that uplift the community.”
Supporting Children Facing Abuse and Trauma
The donation to CACar was not just symbolic—it was deeply needed. The center supports 34 locations serving all 75 counties in Arkansas. Its mission is to provide healing for children enduring trauma from abuse and neglect.
During the visit, AKA members toured the CACar facility. They saw firsthand how the center gives hope to children who have experienced terrible situations. The $20,000 gift will help provide counseling, safe spaces, and essential resources.
AKA Continues to Lead Through Service and Sisterhood
Alpha Kappa Alpha has a long history of empowering Black women and uplifting communities. The South Central Region alone includes over 19,000 members across 145 chapters. Their unity and service were on full display in Little Rock.
This conference wasn’t just about business. It featured workshops on leadership, networking sessions, and professional development. Members also enjoyed a variety of events like a concert by R&B group NEXT and a tailgate celebration known as the “Parade of Pearls.”
A Week of Leadership, Joy, and Legacy
The week ended on a high note. Highlights included a Gospel Brunch with gospel artist Zacardi Cortez and a baseball game supporting HBCU athletics. These events celebrated culture, community, and the Black legacy.
Notable guests such as AKA International President Danette Anthony Reed attended the conference. She was joined by three former international presidents and members of the Board of Directors, showing the strength of leadership behind the movement.
Alpha Kappa Alpha continues to prove that Black women are a force—bringing change, joy, and impact wherever they go.
