Cynthia Erivo to Host the 78th Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall, Celebrating Broadway’s Best on June 8, 2025

Cynthia Erivo Takes Center Stage as Tony Awards Host

Cynthia Erivo, the multi-award-winning star, will host the 78th Annual Tony Awards on June 8, 2025. The ceremony will take place at New York City’s iconic Radio City Music Hall and air live on CBS and Paramount+. Erivo, a Tony, Emmy, and GRAMMY winner, is also a three-time Oscar nominee, making her one of the most celebrated performers of her generation.

In a press release, Erivo shared her excitement, saying, “I am so proud and excited to take on this glorious honor.” Known for her powerful performances, Erivo first rose to fame with her Tony-winning role in The Color Purple on Broadway. Her ability to captivate audiences on stage and screen makes her the perfect choice to lead Broadway’s biggest night.

A Trailblazer in Theater, Film, and Music

Erivo’s career is a testament to her versatility and talent. After her breakout role in The Color Purple, she transitioned to film and television, earning critical acclaim. Most recently, she starred as Elphaba in Universal’s adaptation of Wicked, which shattered box office records. Her performance has already garnered multiple award nominations.

Beyond acting, Erivo is an accomplished musician. She released her debut album, Ch. 1 Vs. 1, in 2021, showcasing her vocal prowess. She also founded her production company, Edith’s Daughter, to amplify underrepresented stories. Her contributions to the arts have earned her the Cultural Icon Award at the 2025 ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood event.

A Celebration of Broadway’s Best

Heather Hitchens, President & CEO of the American Theatre Wing, and Jason Laks, President of The Broadway League, praised Erivo’s impact. “Cynthia has extended the magic of musical theater to millions of new fans around the globe,” they said. “Her talent defies gravity and boundaries, and we are thrilled to welcome her home to Broadway.”

CBS executive Mackenzie Mitchell also highlighted Erivo’s deep connection to theater. “With her innate creativity and captivating presence, she will deliver an unforgettable evening,” Mitchell said. The Tony Awards will honor the best of Broadway, with nominations announced on May 1. The event is produced by Tony Award Productions and White Cherry Entertainment, with Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss as executive producers.

Erivo’s hosting role promises to be a highlight of the Broadway season. “I hope I can rise to the occasion,” she said. With her talent and passion, Erivo is sure to make the 78th Tony Awards a night to remember.
