Halloween brought in a lot of sweet things, but this, might take the cake.
Born Kira Carroll Rice, 18 year old, @kiki.rice UCLA #Bruins freshman, is the first player to have signed a FIRST of its kind, shoe deal with the brand. “Name, Image, and Likeness” (NIL) is what the deal covers, additionally placing Rice as a brand/company representative but also being able to connect with the community around her; her community.
Rice is the country’s leading top guard and led her D.C. high school, Sidwell Friends School, to greatness and earned National Player of the Year, her senior year.
Rice and her Bruin’s family announced the deal this past Tuesday via Instagram. Per the #DailyBruin, Rice was able to gift her fellow Bruins their own Jordans, which she had personally requested for all of her teammates.
“Signing with the Jordan Brand is another motivating factor for me to continue to work hard and achieve my goals,” said Rice after the announcement. Jordan Brand plans to collaborate on ways to serve Rice’s local community, like helping improve gender equity in sports for young girls.
Shoutout to the changes the NCAA made last Summer, allowing college athletes to receive compensation through partnerships, endorsements and sponsorships.
Fam, can we leave some words of encouragement and positive affirmations to help our sister continue blowing the backboard off? #BWLM💕
